Washington Sundar Fitness Update: India All-Rounder Shows Recovery Signs Before T20 WC 2026

Great news for Indian cricket fans! Washington Sundar is recovering well from his injury and might be ready for the T20 World Cup 2026.

Washington Sundar Fitness Update: Washington Sundar injured his ribs on January 11 while bowling against New Zealand in Vadodara during the first ODI. He’s been recovering under the BCCI medical team’s care ever since.

The latest update brings hope. On January 28, Sundar practiced batting for about 30 minutes at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. According to Times of India, his ribs are still a bit sensitive, but the recovery is going well.

This is encouraging news for Team India, especially with the World Cup so close.

Will He Make the Opening Game?

India plays their first T20 World Cup match on February 7 against America in Mumbai. Most experts think Sundar won’t be fully fit by then.

However, the team management hasn’t announced any replacement yet. They’re clearly waiting to see if he recovers in time.

Why India Needs Him

Captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir want an off-spinner in the squad. Off-spinners are very effective against left-handed batsmen, giving India better match-ups.

That’s why Ravi Bishnoi is getting opportunities in the ongoing New Zealand series. But if Sundar gets fit, the team believes he can be a game-changer in the World Cup.
