Tilak Varma Back to Full Fitness: Big Boost for India Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Great news, Team India fans! Tilak Varma is fully fit again and ready to join the T20 World Cup action starting this week. After sitting out the recent T20I series against New Zealand due to an abdominal injury (linked to testicular torsion surgery in January), the young left-hander has completed his rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The 23-year-old looked sharp in his comeback today. He played for India A in a warm-up match against USA at DY Patil Stadium on February 2, smashing a quick 38 off just 24 balls with no signs of trouble. That knock showed he’s back to his aggressive best.

Tilak Varma heads to Mumbai tomorrow (February 3) to link up with the senior squad led by Suryakumar Yadav. Captain SKY has already named him the go-to No. 3 batter – a left-handed anchor who can attack and steady the middle order when needed.

With his fitness green light, Tilak Varma should be available for India’s opening World Cup game against USA on February 7. His return is huge for India’s batting depth, especially after his strong form before the injury – including two centuries against South Africa late last year.
