CBSE On-Screen Marking Exams: Class 12 Answer Sheets to Be Checked On-Screen from 2026

Big news for students and teachers! CBSE is ditching the old paper-checking system for Class 12 board exams. Starting February 17, 2026, teachers will check answer sheets on computer screens instead of paper. The new system is called On-Screen Marking (OSM) — and it’s a game changer.

What Is CBSE On-Screen Marking?

On-Screen Marking means teachers will evaluate Class 12 answer books digitally on their computers. No more travelling to exam centres. No more manual totalling. Everything happens online from school itself.

CBSE sent a letter to all school principals on February 9 announcing the change. The board handles exams for nearly 46 lakh students across India and 26 countries every year.

Note: Class 10 answer books will still be checked the old way in 2026.

Why CBSE Is Making This Change

Here’s what makes On-Screen Marking so much better:

BenefitWhat It Means
No totalling errorsComputer adds marks automatically
Faster checkingMore teachers can participate
Teachers stay in schoolNo travel needed to exam centres
Eco-friendlyLess paper, less waste
No re-verification neededErrors caught digitally upfront

What Schools Need to Set Up

CBSE wants schools to be ready with a computer lab, Windows 8 or higher devices, at least 4GB RAM, updated browsers, Adobe Reader, internet speed of 2 Mbps minimum, and uninterrupted power supply.

Teachers with OASIS IDs can log in and practice before the real evaluation begins. CBSE will also conduct dry runs, training sessions, and helpline support.
