Recent developments in India–Bangladesh relations have extended into the cricketing arena, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) raising concerns regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches scheduled in India.
The issue emerged following the release of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), reportedly following internal decisions by the franchise. Subsequently, BCB approached the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the scheduling of Bangladesh’s World Cup matches in India.
BCB Raises Player Safety Concerns
According to sources, the BCB has formally requested the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches outside India, citing concerns over the safety and security of players.
BCB reportedly sent an official letter to the ICC on January 4, stating that the request was made following advice from the Bangladesh government. The board clarified that the decision was precautionary in nature.
At present, no official travel advisory or restriction has been issued by the Bangladesh government regarding travel to India.
ICC and BCB Discussions Expected
Sources indicate that ICC and BCB are expected to hold discussions soon, possibly via a telephonic meeting, to review the situation. The ICC may request the BCB to reconsider its position and adhere to the existing tournament schedule, subject to appropriate security assurances.
The matter remains under discussion, and no final decision has been announced by the ICC.
Bangladesh’s Matches as Per Current Schedule
The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with the tournament scheduled from February 7 to March 8, 2026.
As per the existing fixture list, Bangladesh is placed in Group C and is scheduled to play the following matches in India:

Situation Under Review
The ICC is currently reviewing the request, and further clarity is expected after consultations with all stakeholders. Until an official announcement is made, the existing T20 World Cup 2026 schedule remains unchanged.
The outcome of the discussions will determine whether Bangladesh plays its World Cup matches in India as planned or if alternative arrangements are considered.
