The Story in Simple Terms
Mahadev (Vijay Sethupathi) is broke and jobless. He desperately needs a job at Mumbai’s municipal corporation, but there’s a catch – he has to pay a bribe first. If he doesn’t get money quickly, his girlfriend Gayatri (Aditi Rao Hydari) will be forced to marry someone else.
Meanwhile, builder Mohan (Arvind Swami) starts rich but quickly falls into serious debt. He drinks heavily and hides in his bungalow, which is about to be auctioned off.
Without knowing Mohan’s money troubles, Mahadev gets a crazy idea – why not rob this rich builder? Things get messy when a pickpocket (Siddharth Jadhav) also shows up at the same house.
What Works and What Doesn’t
The Gandhi Talks review reveals some good moments. AR Rahman’s background music helps fill the silence. A few funny visual jokes land well. The sad reality of Mahadev’s small apartment life hits home.
But here’s the problem – the movie tries too hard to tell a complicated story without words. Some things just need to be said out loud! The film moves really slowly because everything takes longer to show than it would to say.
The biggest issue? The robbery scene goes on forever. Watching Mahadev fail at being a thief gets old fast.
How It Compares to Other Silent Films
Remember Pushpaka Vimana from 1987? That movie proved silent films can work brilliantly. Gandhi Talks doesn’t reach that level. It doesn’t always justify why it needs to be dialogue-free.
