Both these SUVs have returned to Indian roads after several years, and car buyers are now wondering which one deserves their hard-earned money.

The timing of these launches has made the competition even more interesting. People are actively discussing which vehicle offers better value and performance. To clear the confusion, we’re breaking down the key differences between these two contenders in the midsize SUV category.

How Big Are These SUVs?

Looking at the size first, the new Renault Duster comes with a length of 4,346mm, width of 1,815mm, and height of 1,703mm. It sits on a 2,657mm wheelbase and offers 212mm of ground clearance, which is excellent for Indian road conditions. What really stands out is its huge 700-liter luggage space, giving families plenty of room for their belongings.

The Tata Sierra measures slightly differently. It’s 4,340mm long, 1,841mm wide, and 1,715mm tall. While it’s marginally shorter, it makes up with a wider body. The wheelbase extends to 2,730mm, potentially offering more interior room. Ground clearance sits at 205mm, which is still quite good. Storage capacity is 622 liters, somewhat less than the Duster but still practical for most needs.

What Powers These Vehicles?

Renault has equipped the Duster with a turbocharged TCe 160 GDi engine that packs serious punch. This modern powerplant churns out 163PS and delivers 280Nm of torque. Buyers get to pick between a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission. There are three driving modes called Eco, Comfort, and Perso that let drivers customize their experience based on road conditions.

Tata’s Sierra runs on a 1,498cc four-cylinder engine producing 105bhp and 145Nm of torque. While these numbers are lower than the Duster’s, they should handle everyday driving comfortably. The fuel tank capacity is 50 liters.

The Renault Duster responds with a cockpit inspired by fighter jets. It features a 10.1-inch OpenR Link screen and a 10.25-inch driver display.

You also get an electric panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, automatic dual-zone AC with air quality monitoring, 6-way adjustable front seats, auto-dimming mirror, Arkamys 6-speaker audio system, wireless charging, 360-degree camera, and ADAS safety features.

What About Pricing?

Tata launched the Sierra at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 11.49 lakh. Renault hasn’t announced Duster’s price yet but has started accepting bookings. The company will reveal pricing details before starting deliveries in March. Both SUVs promise strong competition in their segment.
