Cricket fans, the big debate is already heating up: Should Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Play the 2027 ODI World Cup? With the tournament still over 18 months away, many say it’s time for fresh faces. But MS Dhoni, the former captain known for straight talk, has a simple and strong answer.
During a recent event, host Jatin Sapru asked Dhoni if the two legends should feature in 2027. Dhoni didn’t hesitate. “Why not?” he said. For him, age is not the deciding factor. Performance and fitness are what count.
Dhoni explained it clearly: “Is age a factor? No. Is fitness a factor? Yes.” He pointed out that a 22-year-old who is unfit has no place in international cricket. But if a player is delivering runs and still hungry to play for India, they deserve their spot. “How else do you build experience?” he asked. You can’t expect a young player to have years of big-match know-how unless they’re someone special like Sachin Tendulkar.
By 2027, Rohit will be 40 and Virat will be 39. Those numbers sound high, but both are in great shape. Rohit has lost weight and looked sharp in recent series against Australia and South Africa. Virat remains a fitness role model, smashing two centuries against South Africa and one against New Zealand lately.
Dhoni’s message was loud: If they’re fit and scoring, they belong in the team. “If they’re not fit, drop them. But if they’re performing, they should be in that dressing room.” Both have already stepped away from T20Is to focus on longer formats, clearly aiming for one more shot at ODI glory in 2027.

Rohit’s smart captaincy and Kohli’s chasing magic could be the edge India needs. Dhoni believes experience matters, and age is just a number when the bat keeps talking.
What do you think? Should Rohit and Virat chase the 2027 dream, or is it time to hand over to the next generation? Share your views below – this debate is only getting started!
