Suryakumar Yadav Jumps to 7th in ICC T20I Rankings Just Before World Cup

Just when India needed him the most, Suryakumar Yadav has rediscovered his trademark brilliance. The Indian T20I captain jumped five places to No. 7 in the latest ICC T20I batting rankings, released on January 28, just 10 days before the T20 World Cup begins.

After enduring a prolonged lean patch — over a year without a T20I half-century — SKY’s resurgence couldn’t have come at a better time.

The New Zealand Series Turnaround

Suryakumar’s jump in the rankings is a direct result of his dominant performances against New Zealand. Across three matches, he piled up 171 runs, including back-to-back unbeaten half-centuries (82 and 57)**. More importantly, he stayed till the end and finished games — a clear sign that his confidence and timing are back.

India have already sealed the series 3–0, with two matches still remaining, giving SKY and the rest of the batting unit a perfect platform to build momentum before the World Cup kicks off on February 7.

India Dominating Across Departments

India’s strength isn’t limited to batting alone. Varun Chakaravarthy remains the No.1 T20I bowler, Hardik Pandya is ranked 3rd among all-rounders, and Jasprit Bumrah has climbed four spots to 13th in bowling rankings.

With home conditions, in-form stars, and momentum on their side, India appear perfectly timed for a strong World Cup campaign.

Suryakumar Yadav’s return to form could be the X-factor India were missing — and the rankings now reflect it.
